LG G5 sales get a good start in South Korea

LG launches its G5 phone finally in some more regions around the world. However, the phone was already unveiled a day before in the home country of the company. As per the first estimates from local industry watchers this smartphone has got a very good start in South Korea.

Analysts from The Korea Herald in a report that LG has sold about 15,000 units of this new smartphone from the Korean giant during the first day of its availability in the country. This figure is three times greater than what was recorded for the LG G4, which is the last year flagship phone of the manufacturer. Also, the Korean Times Corporation says that the second largest mobile carrier in South Korea has also suffered a network outage delayed to 2,000 additional sales.

If we compare the number with Samsung, it was estimated to sell 100,000 Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones in the first two days of their availability in South Korea. Even if these estimates are accurate, still we can’t say that this phone will manage to make good performance in the upcoming months. If it comes out so, the G5 phone might boost the sales for LG which are required to reach profitability ratios. The analysts have estimated that for long run LG will sell about 10 million G5 units by the end of 2016.

Also, the previous flagship phones of the company were relatively affordable while the G5 is priced similarly to the Samsung’s Galaxy S7. LG’s G5 phone is a premium affair with blazing fast internal hardware and unique design patter. There are also some Friends accessories such as VR headset, 360 degree camera to a battery add-on which acts as a camera grip.

Currently, there is no word on how much this slot in the Cam Plus and the other Friends cost. There are also reports that these will be only available in the “selective markets”, so we will be required to wait until it gets launched in the market. For this handset, the Korean giant has given the UX 5.0 graphical user interface a lick of paint.

These octa cores are ARM A53 cores but this chipset also has four ARM Cortex A72 cores with a clock speed of 1.8 GHz. However, on the other hand the LG G5 on the panama listing is revealing a 2.0 GHz octa core processor.

However, there is still no word on the actual availability of the G5 phone from the Korean giant.

LG G5: Five Things You Need to Know

LG recently announced its next generation flagship phone, G5 at the Mobile World Congress 2016 in Barcelona. It was launched along with the Galaxy S7 handset from Samsung and has been packed with almost similar features to its counterpart. Today, we have covered a few things which we think our readers should know about the LG G5 phone.

Modish and Modular:

LG’s G5 looks just like any other current generation smartphone and sports metal design and large high resolution display, This smartphone is billed as a “transforming smartphone”, which is packed with a bunch of new accessories for the users. These features form a part of the new Playground range from the Korean giant such as the LG Cam Plus. The new Cam Plus boosts the snapper of this device with physical buttons and an LED indicator and an improved zoom function.

There is a new LG Hi-Fi Plus with Bang and Olusfen speakers. These are provided on the bottom of this handset and will make it more beautiful in comparison to the rival smartphones available in the market.

Always On Display:

The Always On Display was in news at the MWC event this year. It is not only available with the Galaxy S7 phone from Samsung but is also available in the LG’s G5 handset. This feature introduces a secondary screen which stays on even when this device is in sleep mode. With this feature available on your LG G5 smartphone, you will be able to see date, time and battery details without having to power up your handset.

LG claims that this phone uses about 0.8% battery in a single day, which is far less than consumed if you constantly flick on your phone to just check the real time.

Removable battery:

LG’s G5 will be liked most when batteries are required to be taken out and replaced. It is provided with a removable battery by the manufacturer. The power unit is placed at the bottom of LG’s phone and can be easily replaced by a second unit. This means that the power users will never remain without their smartphone. Its battery can be charged using ultra-fast USB, which has become the standard for the best smartphones these days. LG has provided this handset with a microSD card slot, which can be used to expand its memory further.

Wide Angle Camera:

The camera of this smartphone will come with 16MP count, which will stand up to your expectations. But this device is set apart with its hugely impressive 135 degree wide angle lens, which can be used to make panoramic shots with an ease.

Offers up for grabs:

EE has confirmed that it will sell the G5 from the manufacturer starting 17th March and will further launch an exclusive pre-order offer for the new customers.
O2 will also sell this smartphone, making it available on its refresh tariffs designed for the serial smartphone upgrades.

LG G5: Expectations from LG’s 2016 flagship model

LG G5 is expected to be launched in just three weeks with a huge list of features such as innovative design, fast charging, easy one handed use and better optimization. When LG G4 was released in May 2015, this leather phone impressed its users a lot. Since the release of this phone we have also got some new android handsets emerge such as Nexus 6P and Sony Xperia Z5 that offer features not found on G4 handset.

Good Innovation:

When the Korean giant launched its original G Flex phone two years ago, it stood out from the crowds at the premium end of the smartphone market. This curved phone, which could be bent without shattering the screen, was a precursor to the Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge handset. Both these devices boast the innovative designs. The curvy build of this smartphone actually help you hold the phone more comfortably in your palm despite of its bloody large size.

LG has promised even better flexible tech in the future and has invested £600 million in a display plant last year that is located in South Korea. With this our expectations lie hugely towards a proper bendy screen on the upcoming LG G5 phone. However, we are not surprised to see advancement in LG G Flex technology shown off in the LG’s launch event to be held on 21st February. We should also expect the Korean giant to reveal two new models of the G5 handset in this case i.e. a standard G5 and a flexible model, even a G Flex 3.
Because the Korean giant is manufacturing heavy for display manufacturing which means increased prices for the company. On the other hand, the ability to mass produce the dislays will mean a standard market cost for the upcoming G5 handset.

Survival of the fittest:

LG G3 and G4 have survived impressively in several flips in the months we had been using them. We saw G3 falling from a distance of four feet, which could have killed it off but the phone was still in a perfect working order though its plastic casing was cracked a bit.

Motorola proved out its worth with the Moto X Force handset which was rugged enough, we want the next generation flagship phone from LG to be just as tough and come with a screen which can’t be smashed. Sony Xperia Z5 turned out to be more fragile than hoped; it appealed outdoor enthusiasts giving it an edge over the competition. We want our LG G5 smartphone to be something that can stand on the top in the competition.

Use the leather and ditch the plastic:

LG G3 and G4 were decent looking smartphones, but we would like the Korean giant to ditch the plastic in its new flagship model. But this depends on whether LG wants its upcoming phone to simply look good or stand out from the rest of the line-up that will be launched at the MWC event. LG G4 was an impressively stunning phone with its leathery backside, which gave it a unique look and feel. However, the textured surface fitted this handset perfectly on your palm which made it perfect to use one-handed.

Satisfaction with single handed feature:

The G4 handset had a one-handed mode for keyboard but we are hoping to see a more intelligent feature in the upcoming G5 phone. It will be a winner if its gets features that are easy to activate on a whim and allows you to use all the apps without dislocating your thumb.

Pop it out:

Today, when every smartphone is coming with an embedded power cell, LG will stick to a pop-off back and removable battery. We are hoping the G5 phone to retain this feature even though you have a choice to pick up some affordable chargers. If this upcoming phone can last for two full days between charges then it’s great.

Fast and cable-free:

Another feature related to battery is fast charge, so G5 is capable of soaking up enough juice to keep it going for a few hours until we give it up a panic power before leaving the house. Also, the built-in wireless charging is good especially if LG uses Type C USB in its upcoming flagship phone, G5.

Optimal Optimization:

LG’s phones performed quite well at the beginning but then lack a proper optimization, they started showing the signs of ageing after being used for a couple of months. The only solution available was to us clean up app or when things become more frustrating, then just wipe up this handset and start again.

Fingerprint Sensor:

Lg Finger Print Scanner

We would like to see a super secure way to unlock the G5 beyond the Trusted Places and Devices of Android. One of such features that is used by most flagships now and is also supported actively by Android Marshmallow is the fingerprint sensor. As per reports, the fingerprint sensor will be housed on the back of the G5 phone, just like Nexus 5X’s scanner.

LG G5’s first marketing campaign to compete against Samsung Galaxy S7

LG and Samsung have just announced their flagship phones on 21st February at the MWC event 2016. As we know, Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG’s G5 compete in the same market segment, so as a result LG decided to launch its flagship before its rival to score more sales.

The Jordian branch of LG recently posted a photo on twitter. In this photo, the manufacturer is flaunting its new flagship phone are the best use of the number 7. Here, the Korean giant is actually referring to the seven LG G5 accessories in the “Friends series”. This photo is paired with a text punch line reading, “Think not what your phone does, but what you can do with it”.

However, this advertisement is not yet live but it gives us a clear sign that LG is positioning G5 as a direct competitor to the Galaxy S7 phone. Both these phones are similar to each other in a number of ways. There is a similar Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chip which is paired with 4GB RAM. Both these smartphones sport QHD “Always On Display” and are packed in a metal body.

With these similarities, it makes sense for the Korean giant to accelerate marketing of G5 handset on “Friends accessories”, which makes this smartphone unique in comparison to the Galaxy S7.

LG G5 now unveiled, with price, date and availability

LG has now unveiled its flagship phone, G5, a phone which was being anticipated for long time by the android fans. The rumors and leaks pointed out previously that with this smartphone LG might try out to make what others have never before tried out, i.e. metal, unibody device with an interchangeable battery. Now, we can say that LG has kept to its promise and the device is now real. Finally, LG has found a way to innovate and set itself apart from the rival manufacturers.

One thing which seems exciting to us is the price and release date of this smartphone. However, even if the device gets all your expected specifications still you won’t be happy until you get your hands-on it. The G5 is expected to be priced similar to its predecessor  LG G4, which means that this handset will come to you at $599 on launch. However, this is not yet officially revealed by the Korean giant so we can’t rely on this price.

On the other hand, LG will roll out its G5 phone in the April this year but no exact date is yet set by the manufacturer. There are reports that this handset will be hitting all the major markets such as UK, US etc. LG’s phone will be available in Silver, Titan, Pink and Gold color option.
